When I can get into the city I usually buy a lovely hazelnut slice. I decided to have a go at making it myself by looking at the ingredients list and figuring out the ratios needed to get the right consistency! It worked!!!!
Here it is – sorry lovely health food shop, but I actually think my version tastes better.
If you enjoy playing in the kitchen then I would highly recommend giving this a go. Choose something you buy which has only got a few household ingredients and have a play!
Ingredients
6 medjool dates
85g ground hazelnuts
55g sunflower seeds
30g flour (I used wholemeal spelt)
40ml oil (I used melted coconut oil)
10ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
16 whole hazelnuts (for decoration)
Method
Makes 16 (5x4cm) slices. Great for kids of all ages, just leave off the whole nuts if they are for children under 5.
Preheat oven to 170°C (no hotter as the smoke point of coconut oil is around 177°C)
Combine all ingredients (except the whole hazelnuts) in a food processor until smooth.
Place the mix in a lined brownie tin and press into a 20cm x 18cm rectangle (1cm thickness)
Bake for 20 mins. Allow it to cool before removing from the tin & cutting.
